Remedy Entertainment is a Finnish development studio for computer games . The company was founded in 1995 in Espoo by members of the Demogroup Future Crew . Remedy Entertainment is best known for the Max Payne computer game series .
history
The first product was Death Rally in 1996 . Originally published through Apogee Software / GT Interactive , Remedy Entertainment has been offering it for free download since October 2009. In 2001, Remedy published the third-person shooter Max Payne in collaboration with 3D Realms and Gathering of Developers , which stood out from comparable products in particular because of its slow-motion battles - the so-called bullet time. By 2002 more than 2.75 million copies were sold, in July 2002 the American publisher Take 2 acquired the rights to the brand for ten million US dollars and around 970,000 common shares . The follow-up Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne was finally released in October 2003 via Take 2's publishing label Rockstar Games .
The successor, Max Payne 3 , was an internal Rockstar Games production. From the former Remedy team, only Sam Lake and Matias Myllyrinne were involved as advisors on story and gameplay.
The latter, however, was very positive about the development of Max Payne and said that the Rockstar Games team just can't make bad games.
On May 14, 2010, Alan Wake , a psychological thriller game for adults with borrowings from Twin Peaks and the works of the horror author Stephen King , was released, which was initially released exclusively for the Xbox 360 . On February 16, 2012 it was finally released for Windows for the first time . In 2011, after a development period of eight months, the company brought its debut Death Rally in a revised version to mobile iOS and Android devices. With 1.8 million downloads by December 2011, the program recouped its development costs within three days. On February 22, 2012, an offshoot of Alan Wake called Alan Wake's American Nightmare was released as a downloadable title via Xbox Live Arcade , the PC version was released on May 22, 2012. In May 2013, during a special Microsoft event , the game Quantum Break was announced as an exclusive for the upcoming Xbox One game console .
On October 22nd, 2014 , the strategy game Agents of Storm was released exclusively for Apple iOS in cooperation with Flaregames . The game uses a Free2Play payment model.
On June 3, 2015, Remedy Entertainment CEO Matias Myllyrinne announced that he would be leaving the studio after more than 15 years. According to Myllyrinne, he wanted to do new things and switched to Wargaming.net .
Sam Lake , the creative director of Remedy , announced at Gamescom 2015 that Quantum Break will be available exclusively for Xbox One and Windows 10 on April 5, 2016 .
Remedy often uses pieces by the Finnish rock band Poets of the Fall for the soundtrack of his games . Works by the band were used in Max Payne 2 , Alan Wake and Alan Wake's American Nightmare (as Children of the Elder Gods) and the remake of Death Rally ; The band also contributed songs to Control , which was released in 2019 . The song here is called "My Dark Disquiet" and is taken from the album "Ultraviolet".
