Remerschen ( Luxembourgish Rëmerschen ) is a village that is part of the municipality of Schengen in the extreme south-east of Luxembourg . The wine-growing village has around 680 inhabitants and is located directly on the border with the German state of Saarland .

Until 2006 Remerschen was the eponymous village of the former municipality of Remerschen. By law of July 24, 2006, the municipality was renamed Schengen on September 3, 2006, as the municipality representatives wanted to take into account the greater awareness of the small town of Schengen through the Schengen Agreement .

The first settlements in Remerschen took place in the time of the Celts. The name Remsere was first mentioned in 893.

The first nuclear power plant ( Remerschen nuclear power plant ) in Luxembourg was to be built near Remerschen . Today the Haff Réimech nature reserve is located here .
