René Berthod (born February 7, 1948 in Château-d'Oex ) is a former Swiss ski racer . He was active as a downhill runner in the 1970s.

biography

His downhill career in the Ski World Cup began in the 1970/71 season, in which he immediately achieved two 8th places in the two races in St. Moritz . In 1978, after various injuries, Berthod announced his retirement from active ski racing.

In the course of his career, Berthod achieved five podium places, including four 2nd places in the races of Val Gardena (ITA, March 15, 1972), Megève (FRA, February 1, 1975), Aspen (USA, March 12, 1976) and Kitzbühel (AUT, January 15, 1977). A victory in a World Cup race was granted to him by eight hundredths of a second. Overall, Berthod achieved 19 placements among the top ten in the Ski World Cup . At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he finished twelfth in the downhill. 1974 Berthod became Swiss champion in the downhill.

After retiring from racing, the qualified chef and patented ski instructor initially worked as a representative for his ski company before buying the Hotel Schönegg in Wengen in 1986 , which he ran with his partner Sina Steiner until 2012. René Berthod's nephew is the former Swiss ski racer Marc Berthod .
