René Castel
René Richard Louis Castel (born October 6, 1758 in Vire , Normandy , † June 15, 1832 in Reims , Champagne ) was a French poet and naturalist.
After studying at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand and being elected Chief Justice, he was a member of the Calvados to the Legislative Assembly and defended the monarchy and the king. He was the first mayor of Vire between February and July 1790.
On the occasion of his appointment as Professor of the Belles-Lettres at Louis-le-Grand, he then published letters that he had written in 1797 as a didactic poem about plants. In 1813 he also published his opera libretto le Prince de Catane ( The Prince of Catania after Voltaire for the composer Nicolas Isouard ).
