René Eckhardt

René Eckhardt is a Dutch pianist .

Eckhardt studied at the Conservatory in Amsterdam with Hans Dercksen and at the Koninklijk Conservatory in The Hague with Geoffry Madge . Since 1980 he has been a member of the Asko Ensemble . As a concert pianist he performed a. a. with the Concertgebouw Orchestra . Composers such as Theo Loevendie , Otto Ketting , Roderik de Man and Ton de Leeuw wrote works for him.

In 1995 he recorded Charles Ives ' First & Second Piano Sonata on CD. In 1997 he played the solo piano part in the performance of Ives' 4th Symphony with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He performed Lou Harrison's Piano Concerto with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra , Elliott Carter's Double Concerto with the Asko Ensemble and Karel Goeyvaerts ' Avontuur with the Orchester Philharmonique de Liège . He recorded Tristan Keuris ' Piano Concerto with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Lucas Vis .

In 2001 he undertook a concert tour through the Netherlands with the program Tribute - Ten composer Portraits in word, sound and image , in which he presented works by ten important composers of the 20th century, including Olivier Messiaen , John Cage , Toru Takemitsu , Ton de Leeuw, Tristan Keuris and Astor Piazzolla . He recorded twelve of the works on the CD Tribute 2000 .

On a tour from 2002–03 under the title Van Haydn tot Heden he combined works by Haydn , Schumann and Stravinsky with compositions dedicated to him by Toek Numan , Roel van Oosten and Roderik de Man. In 2003 he played the world premiere of Paolo Perezzani's Folly for to ... for piano and live electronics in Amsterdam alongside solo works by Henri Dutilleux and Jonathan Harvey .

Between 2003 and 2004 Eckhardt gave a series of concerts with songs by Charles Ives with the mezzo-soprano Marion van den Akker and the baritone Hans van Heiningen . As part of the EU project Think forward , he presented compositions by young Baltic composers. In the following year he performed Music of Changes and Music for Marcel Duchamp as well as the Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano by John Cage and gave a series of concerts with dance under the title Spontaneous Earth based on the work of the same name by Cage.

As a chamber musician, Eckhardt has been working with clarinetist Harry Sparnaay and flautist Harrie Starreveld as Het Trio since 1982 . Since then, the ensemble has given more than 180 world premieres, including works by Franco Donatoni , Jonathan Harvey and Theo Loevendie .
