René Schmidt (born October 30, 1974 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Schmidt already played in the youth of VfB Leipzig and made the leap into the professional team. He played in the Bundesliga eight times and after relegation in the 1993/94 season the following two and a half seasons in the 2nd Bundesliga . The big breakthrough was denied to him, he was a substitute player in Leipzig and moved in the winter break 1997/98 within the second division from Leipzig to KFC Uerdingen . For the Krefeld team he was on the pitch twelve times and scored a goal, at the end of the season he was 13th, which meant that the class was kept. At that time, Schmidt moved to FSV Zwickau . With Zwickau he played third class in the Regionalliga Nordost , his employer was relegated from second class in the preseason. Schmidt completed 21 games and contributed four goals in the league to fourth place in the final table. After this one season in Zwickau, he moved to league competitor Dynamo Dresden . For Dresden he was active for two seasons, at the end of which Dresden was relegated to fourth class. He then ended his career after a cruciate ligament tear.
