René Trintzius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

René Trintzius (born July 28, 1898 in Rouen , Département Seine-Maritime , † January 24, 1953 in Paris ) was a French lawyer and writer.

Trintzius was the eldest son of an architect. After completing his school days, he studied law and was then able to practice as a lawyer. He made his first literary attempts during his studies. His plays, which premiered in Paris on the stages of the Théâtre l'reuvre and the Comédie Française, were successful .

It was through these plays that the writer André Gide became aware of Trintzius and encouraged him. Ultimately, however, Trintzius was not granted any lasting success. Forgotten by literary criticism and the public, he died at the age of 54 in Paris.

reception

From 1934 Trintzius no longer published works of fiction. He dealt almost exclusively with the philosophy of the Enlightenment and publishes a few non-fiction books on it. After the occupation of France by the Germans in World War II, the works of René Trintzius - above all his "Germany" - were on the index .

His work “Germany” is close to Franz Kafka'sAmerica ” and, when it appeared, was considered a counterpart to Yvan Goll's “Sodom Berlin”.
