René Trujillo (born September 4, 1947 in Mexico City ), also known by the nickname El Popeye , is a retired Mexican football player on the position of defender .
Life
society
Trujillo began his professional career in 1966 at his hometown club Club Universidad Nacional and two years later moved within the same neighborhood of Coyoacán to city rivals America , where he was under contract for the next eleven years until the end of his active career.
During this period, Trujillo won the Mexican championship title twice with the Americanistas, as well as the cup competition , the Supercup , the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the Copa Interamericana .
National team
Trujillo made his debut in the national team on January 26, 1972 against Chile (2-0) and his last international match on October 15, 1977 in an 8-1 win over Suriname. He scored his only international goal on September 8, 1974 at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas for a 1-0 win over Mexico's arch-rivals USA.
