Renaldo O'Neal

Renaldo O'Neal (born November 2, 1961 in Macon , Georgia ) is a former American - Austrian basketball player .

career

O'Neal played basketball at Northeast High School in his hometown of Macon before moving to university: From 1979 to 1981, the 1.93-meter-tall winger was a member of the basketball team at Volunteer State Community College, Tennessee , from 1981 to 1981 In 1983, O'Neal played and studied at Rice University , Texas . In his final season 1982/83 he scored an average of 10.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per encounter in 28 games in the Rice jersey.

O'Neal then switched to the professional field and played for years in the Austrian Bundesliga, where he worked for Innsbruck, UKJ Möllersdorf , Basket Flyers Vienna and ABC Merkur Graz. With Möllersdorf and Vienna he won the Austrian state championship three times and the cup competition once. In 1997 he was named the best player in the cup final.

During his professional career as a player, O'Neal was also active as a coach and continued this work after completing his competitive sports career. Among other things, he was employed as a youth coach in Innsbruck, Möllersdorf, Graz, Korneuburg and Tulln. As a member of the Austrian senior men's national team, he took part in European and world championships in different age groups.

O'Neal, whose son Lorenzo was also a professional basketball player, took Austrian citizenship in 1990.
