Renascent is a Finnish melodic death and black metal band from Helsinki that was founded in 2003. The group has now moved its headquarters to Bloomington , Indiana , in the USA .

history

The origins of the band go back to 1995, when the drummer Jani Stefanović and the guitarist Eero Tertsunen founded the Sepultura co-association Crossexamination. This band developed into a formation called Sabaoth, who played their own material and disbanded in 1998. Tertsunen then founded the band Kremator, while Stefanović played briefly in 2000 with Am I Blood . Afterwards both found their way back together in the new project Trail of Tears, where they also met the keyboardist Mikaela Akrenius. The band broke up after Stefanović moved back to Sweden and Sins of Omission joined. In the meantime, Tertsunen worked for Hallowed and Cannu Gnu. Tertsunen and Akrenius played together at their own wedding in spring 2002, with the intention of forming a new band in the future.

In early 2003 Stefanović returned from Sweden, which led to the establishment of Renascent. Bassist Voitto Rintala joined them within a week. Tertsunen and Stefanović then worked on the first songs, while Akrenius worked alone. In the summer of the year the first rehearsals were held as a band. Since a second guitarist and a singer were missing, Tertsunen took over the vocals for the EP Demons' Quest in autumn. The EP, recorded in the Necromorbus Studio in Stockholm , was released in 2004 by Maanalainen Levykauppa . In August 2004 the Swede Barry Halldan got on as a singer, and soon after Pekka Taina as the second guitarist. After various concerts, the debut album Through Darkness was recorded in March 2005 in the Panic Room Studios in Skara . It was released on Metal Union Records that same year . In Japan , the album was released in June of that year on Nexus Records , a sub-label of King Records . In 2006 Halldan and Stefanović left the line-up, after which Tertsunen took over the vocals again. The drums went to Markus Saarela. After a few appearances, the group took a longer break. In 2012 the band recorded the drum tracks for the next album in the Drumforest Studios in Niinilahti with drummer Rolf Pilve . The rest of the album was recorded by the band independently. In 2014, Tertsunen and Akrenius moved to Bloomington, Indiana. In 2016 the album Praise of the Lord God Almighty was self-published.

style

Necrosarx from unclenecro.wordpress.com wrote in his review of Through Darkness that it could hear Melodic Death Metal in the style of classic In Flames . The riffs and the good song structures are particularly characteristic . Jethro de Beer from reanimatedradio.com reviewed Praise of the Lord God Almighty and described the music as a mixture of symphonic metal , death metal and black metal , although the lyrics were Christian in nature. Despite the melodic guitars, he wouldn't classify Renascent as Melodic Death Metal. The album is "heavier" than its predecessor.
