Renate Kroos

Renate Kroos (born January 24, 1931 ; † October 9, 2017 in Munich ) was a German art historian at the Central Institute for Art History in Munich. She published numerous scientific articles and papers. After studying and doing a doctorate in Göttingen and working at the Berlin State Library, she came to the Central Institute for Art History in Munich in 1971 to supervise research undertakings and to support the work of the management. In the two decades of her activity at the institute she supervised several important projects, the most extensive of which was the large monograph on the Servatius Shrine in Maastricht. She was also a member of the editorial conference of the art chronicle. After she left in 1991, she pursued her own scientific projects until the end. In 2002, the Humboldt University of Berlin awarded her an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Theology for her services to mediaeval research.
