Renate Potgieter

Renate Potgieter , b. Junker (born March 26, 1938 in Spremberg ) is a former German athlete who was active as a long jumper and all-rounder around 1960 .

She started for the Rheydter Turnverein 1847 until 1961 and, after her marriage to the South African hurdle specialist Gert Potgieter , for the ASV Köln .

She took third place in the long jump in German championships twice (1957 and 1962) and third place in the pentathlon in 1961 . In addition, there is a championship title in 1962, which she won with the 4 x 100 meter relay of ASV Cologne and another title from the same year with the pentathlon team of ASV Cologne.

She took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. She fulfilled the 5.80 m required in the qualification with a jump of 6.00 m. In the final battle she managed five more jumps over 6 meters, of which the best was measured at 6.19 m. So she was only two centimeters behind the bronze medalist Hildrun Claus from the GDR.

Her personal best was 6.23 m, jumped on August 7, 1960 in Erfurt .

She is 1.68 m tall and had a competition weight of 62 kg.

Potgieter lives in Pretoria with her husband .
