Renato Ulrich (born December 14, 1983 in Lucerne ) is a former Swiss freestyle skier . He specialized in the aerials (jumping) discipline.

Career

Ulrich was a trampoline gymnast (one year member of the junior national team) and competed in alpine ski races . In 1999 he combined his interests in gymnastics and skiing and began to train acrobatics. After three winters in the European Cup, he made his debut on January 17, 2003 in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup and reached 26th place in Lake Placid . The best result of the season he achieved at the 2003 World Cup in Deer Valley , where he was 16th.

In the 2003/04 season, Ulrich made it into the top ten twice in the World Cup. The following 2004/05 season, he had to be completely injured. He achieved two more top 10 results in the 2005/06 World Cup season, plus a tenth place at the 2006 Winter Olympics . The 2006/07 season was also marked by a long break from injury.

At the World Cup competition in Deer Valley on February 1, 2008, Ulrich finished third and was on the podium for the first time. There were also two other results among the top five this season. In the winter of 2008/09 he was unable to confirm these performances at first, but showed his best performance at the end of the season and jumped to fourth place at the 2009 World Cup in Inawashiro . Another podium followed in the 2009/10 World Cup season. His best World Cup result so far is a second place, achieved on January 29, 2011 in Calgary . At the 2011 World Cup in Deer Valley , Ulrich narrowly missed a medal in fourth.

Ulrich ended his active career after the 2013/14 season .

Ulrich is a trained air traffic control employee , in 2009 he graduated from the secondary school for adults .
