Renault EZ-GO

Renault EZ-GO

The Renault EZ-GO is a highly automated robotic taxi that is driven by an electric motor. In terms of its conception, it can only control autonomously. There is no place for a driver, steering wheel or instruments. According to the SAE J3016 standard, the autonomy level is 4 out of 5. It was presented at the 88th Geneva Motor Show 2018. Renault itself describes it as "barrier-free, urban, practical".

The vehicle is 5.20 meters long and 2.20 m wide and has rear-wheel drive. Its weight with the battery is 1.7 tons. The manufacturer specifies its maximum speed of 50 km / h, with a maximum range of 400 km. Its interior can accommodate six passengers. You sit on three benches for two people each, which together form a U-shape. Two passengers are in the direction of travel, two times two lengthways to and opposite. This arrangement was chosen so that the EZ-GO also offers enough space for luggage, strollers and wheelchairs. There is no classic trunk.

Cameras, ultrasound, radar and lidar sensors are located under the roof. They are used so that the car controls, accelerates and brakes autonomously. In addition, he can change lanes without outside interference and monitor his surroundings while driving. LED light strips are attached to the front and rear to communicate with the environment. You can tell, for example, whether the taxi is free, occupied or reserved.

Customers use a special app for fully automated ordering to a specific location. Getting in and out is via a flap door in the front. In addition, a large part of the glass dome roof swings upwards. There is also a lowerable ramp to give people with disabilities access. That is why the EZ-GO is called barrier-free. During the journey, passengers can charge their smartphones by induction using existing trays. Interactive screens enable communication between passengers and the taxi center.

Renault Laurens van den Acker , chief designer responsible for the project, said at the presentation that the car should deliberately look different from other Renault models. At the same time, it would have been important to design it in such a way that it could address fleet customers such as cities or hotels when it was implemented. He also said the design team was inspired by New York and London taxis but tried to create a more iconic and modern look. Series production is planned for 2030 (as of December 2019).

Renault EZ-PRO

Renault EZ-PRO (Leading Pod)

The Renault EZ-PRO is an electric and autonomous vehicle system whose area of application is to be urban delivery. It was presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 . The concept consists of several independent units called pods. The leading pod has a person on board who can take control of the control via a joystick if necessary. All pods are driven by electric motors on the rear axle and also have all-wheel steering. As with the EZ-GO, according to the manufacturer, a market launch should be possible by 2030 (as of December 2019).

Renault EZ-ULTIMO

Renault EZ-ULTIMO

The Renault EZ-ULTIMO is an electric and autonomous car, which is assigned to the luxury class by the manufacturer. It premiered at the Paris Motor Show in 2018. Unlike the EZ models previously presented, the drive here is via the front axle. The car has a length of 5.70 m and a width of 2.20 m. It is only 1.35 m high, but has a wheelbase of 3.88 m. For comparison: the long version of a contemporary Mercedes S-Class is 3.37 meters. Renault specifies the weight as 1.8 tons. It has all-wheel steering, but because of the autonomous driving system, there is no steering wheel. Factory specifications indicate a range of approx. 500 km for the vehicle with a full battery charge. Access is through a side door, the roof opens from the front to make it easier. For the design of the interior, as part of the celebrations for the brand's 120th anniversary, inspiration was taken from the luxury cars from before the Second World War . Therefore the vehicle has a lounge-like interior with three velvet armchairs. Materials such as marble and wooden parquet were also used.

Renault EZ-FLEX

The EZ-FLEX is a test vehicle presented in 2019 that is designed for daily delivery traffic in urban areas. But there is one important difference to the previous EZ models. The drive is electric again and the trolley also has a high degree of networking. However, the control should be carried out by a human driver who is also responsible for delivering the parcels. At 3.86 m, the EZ-FLEX is 20 centimeters shorter than a contemporary Clio and, at 1.65 m, as narrow as a Twingo . Its height of 1.88 m and the loading sill of 76 cm are in the range of the petrol-powered competition. Renault sets the turning circle at 4.50 m. According to the manufacturer, a full battery charge is enough for the EZ-FLEX for a range of approx. 100 km. Initially, Renault announced that it would build twelve vans and lend them to companies across Europe in order to gain practical experience for series production. In the summer of 2019, however, it became known that the vehicles would be used and tested by the French Post Office (La Poste).
