In the Rendsburger Schifffahrtsarchiv museum , shipping with a focus on shipyards and shipowners from Schleswig-Holstein has been shown on 550 square meters since the 1940s.

Maritime Archive and Maritime Museum

The museum building at Königstraße 5 in Rendsburg is a half-timbered house built in 1697, which was renovated and restored as a monument for the museum's tasks . Books, ship lists , pictures, ship models and various objects from everyday ship and shipyard life have been exhibited in the building on three floors since 2007 .

The archive is a foundation of the Rendsburg shipping company Jens-Peter Schlueter.

ground floor

The entrance area with cash register and the sales area are on the ground floor. In the exhibition area various details from the wheelhouse are shown with the steering position and some nautical objects. Documents, photos and paintings show the beginnings of the Rendsburg shipping companies. The development of the ships over time is documented on the basis of many ship models and other exhibits . It starts with Kümos and the largest ship is shown as a model of a bulk carrier .

First floor

The first floor is largely dedicated to the development of the former Rendsburg shipping company Karl Schlueter . Nautical patents and other technical documents are displayed behind glass. The technical drawings and models of the ships reveal many interesting technical details. In addition to the typical freighters, the models of modern container ships are particularly striking.

Second story

In the stairwell to the second floor there are many photos, some of them large-format, showing ships and yachts. On the second floor, the creation of the ships is shown using documents, paintings, models, other exhibits and an online gallery. Here are several models of naval ships, u. a. also the famous SMS Emden from the First World War. The old swing bridge over the Kiel Canal is reproduced as a model. Some older photos and exhibits come from Nübbel , where more than five shipyards were located in the century before last.
