The company has two production sites in Viernau and Altersbach as well as a sales office in the USA.
history
Rennsteig tools in its current form essentially originated from the VEB hand tools Steinbach-Hallenberg in the tool combine Schmalkalden . It was founded in 1990 as a GmbH, was managed by the Treuhandanstalt and became a company of the Knipex Group in 1991 . In the 1990s, the production program was first streamlined and modernized and the machinery was extensively renewed. The development capacity was then greatly expanded and numerous innovations, especially in the field of cable and pipe processing, were brought onto the market. In 1998, a larger area in Viernau was acquired and, in addition to the plant in Altersbach, another location with a new building was opened, which was expanded with a larger production hall in 2015 and 2017.
Product range
In addition to striking and prying tools such as chisels, pin punches and similar tools, Rennsteig develops and manufactures tools for the installation and processing of pipes (including pipe wrenches , pipe cutters , pipe crimping pliers) and tools for electrical installation ( cable shears , wire strippers and crimping pliers ). A particular specialty are tools for aviation, fiber optic cables and the installation of photovoltaic systems. Many tools are manufactured in conjunction with system providers (manufacturers of plugs, connectors and fittings).
Innovations
Rennsteig Tools holds over 50 national and international patents and has been recognized as a Top 100 innovator for its innovative strength. Important Rennsteig inventions are the first crimping pliers with digital display and the first electromechanically driven crimping tool. The company is a development supplier for Airbus for the connection technology for the new aluminum cabling of the Airbus A380 .
