The United Nations Security Council Resolution 8 is a resolution that the United Nations Security Council decided in the 57th meeting on August 29, 1946, ten votes. Australia abstained. It dealt with the admission of the People's Republic of Albania , the Mongolian People's Republic , Afghanistan , Jordan , Ireland , Portugal , Iceland , Siams (today's Thailand ) and Sweden as members in the United Nations .
course
Siam, which had applied for membership on August 3, 1946, asked the Security Council on August 28, one day before the adoption of Resolution 8, to suspend deliberations on its admission procedure. The outcome of negotiations with permanent Security Council member France on territorial disputes as a result of the Indochina War should be awaited.
The Security Council voted individually on each application for membership. Due to the negative votes of permanent members of the Security Council, the applications of the People's Republic of Albania, the Mongolian People's Republic, Jordan, Ireland and Portugal were not granted.
