Resurs-P 2 ( Russian Ресурс-П - П «перспективный» , P for perspective) is a Russian earth observation satellite .

The satellite was launched into sun-synchronous orbit from Baikonur on December 26, 2014 at 18:55 UTC by a Soyuz 2.1b rocket . The satellites in this series are used to explore the earth's resources. The planned lifespan of Resurs-P 2 is five years.

Technical specifications

The main instrument of the satellite is the Geoton-L1 camera with an aperture of 50 cm and a focal length of 4 m, which has a resolution of 1.0 panchromatic and 3 to 4 m multispectral . The swath width is 38 km in the nadir, whereby the camera can be swiveled very quickly and stereoscopic images and images outside the flight path can also be recorded. The images will be transmitted to earth in real time using the Sangur-1U downlink system. This also includes a hyperspectral camera with 216 channels that records images with a spectral resolution of 5 to 10 nanometers. It weighs 140 kg and can deliver images with a resolution of up to 30 meters and a swath width of 25 km. The last part of the imaging payload consists of two multispectral cameras (one with high resolution and the other with medium resolution) that work in the visible and near infrared wavelengths between 430 and 900 nanometers . They have a resolution of up to 119 km and 23.8 km. The cameras can also be operated in a panchromatic mode, in which the resolution increases to 11.9 and 59.4 kilometers. The swath width is 97.2 km and 442 km respectively.

In addition to the remote sensing payload, Resurs-P 2 (as opposed to Resurs-P 1 ) carries an instrument called the Nuclone for particle physics. This was intended as the main instrument of the Koronas-Nuklon research satellite, but its development was abandoned in 2012. The device is designed to investigate high-energy cosmic particles with energies between 1.012 and 1.015 keV and consists of a spectrometer , a scintillator , an ionization chamber and an instrument for measuring the charge of the incident particle. It was designed and operated by Moscow State University and funded by Roscosmos .

Resurs-P 2 also has an AIS receiver on board to collect data from ships at sea that can be used for navigation and search and rescue purposes.

The satellite is based on the satellite bus of the Jantar satellites . The energy supply is provided by two solar cell booms measuring 5.0 × 4.5 m. Resurs-P 2 was built by RKZ Progress , the manufacturer of the Soyuz rockets.
