Reto Müller (Rossini researcher)

Reto Müller (born February 1964 in Basel ) is a Swiss collector and opera researcher , especially the works of Gioachino Rossini .

Life

Müller initially worked for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) as a dispatcher / dispatcher for 25 years and was already active as an opera researcher during this time. In 2010 he gave up his daily job and has since worked as an expert on music theater and bel canto operas, especially the works of Rossini.

He has concentrated on researching Rossini's works since 1979 and collects and researches in the field. Müller wrote numerous articles and reviews for publications of the Rossini societies, specialist organs on music theater and is often program booklet author.

Müller has been a member of the Deutsche Rossini Society (DRG) since 1990 and has been its executive chairman since 1996.

Müller has been active in an advisory and organizational role at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad since 1991. A year later he also started working as a freelancer at the Fondazione Rossini in Pesaro (since 2011 member and secretary of the scientific advisory board of the Fondazione Rossini).

Müller is a member of the patronage committee of the "Grand Opera Wilhelm Tell" association, which organizes open-air performances of Guillaume Tell on the Rütli .

On December 1, 2018, Müller was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Philosophical-Historical Faculty of the University of Bern .
