Bernd-Rüdiger Kern

Bernd-Rüdiger Kern (born May 31, 1949 in Bremerhaven ) is a German legal scholar , professor emeritus at the University of Leipzig and politician of the DSU in the district council of the Delitzsch district .

Career

Kern comes from a family of marine engineers . After graduating from the Wilhelm-Raabe-Schule (Bremerhaven) , he studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1969 . During his studies he devoted himself to history and specialized in legal history. After taking the legal traineeship in the summer of 1974 , he went to the Free University of Berlin , where he became an assistant to Dietmar Willoweit at the Institute for Legal History. In the winter of 1975 he moved to the higher court as a trainee lawyer .

After the assessor examination at the Court of Appeal in February 1978, he became assistant to Adolf Laufs in Heidelberg, who supervised his doctoral thesis on Georg Beseler . Kern's habilitation at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (1988) was also under Laufs' patronage. In 1993, Kern followed the call of the University of Leipzig to her chair for civil law , legal history and medical law , which he held until his retirement in 2014. He is currently chairman of the Leipzig-based Association for Medical Law eV and head of the master's degree in "Medical Law LLM." at Dresden International University. The focus of his research lies in the area of ​​medical law (in particular liability law , compensation for pain and suffering and transplant law ) and legal history. He is also devoted to the history of science in the 18th and 19th centuries in the regional area - Jena, Halle, Leipzig, Wittenberg - and prosographically outstanding personalities in the history of law. Kern is active in several functions (including a member of the ethics committee and living donation committee) for the Saxon State Medical Association. He has also been working as Of Counsel for a national medical law firm in Berlin since 2014 .

politics

Kern has been a member of the district council of the Delitzsch district for the German Social Union since 1999 . When he was elected mayor of Leipzig in 2006, he ran for the DSU. In the first ballot he received 0.9 percent of the votes cast. He has been a DSU member since 2008.

After a dispute in a law lecture because of a freshman information event with Kern in the corporation house of the Arminia fraternity in Leipzig , Martin Kohlmann represented him as a lawyer.

Private

Kern is the first chairman of the German Rossini Society . He is married and has two children.
