Panties

Retro pants ( English actually boxer briefs ), also retro shorts (short form Retros ), are called fashionable men's underpants , which, in contrast to boxer shorts, are not cut wide, but rather lie close to the skin.

Retros always completely cover the buttocks and genital organs, the legs are usually covered a few cm. Hip shorts (for women, see also hot pants ) are also known as hip shorts .

Not only the cut, but also the material used is decisive for the designation of panties. Most retros are made of microfiber , the individual proportions of different fibers differ considerably depending on the manufacturer and model. Cotton retros are called letter shorts .

Predominant fibers are e.g. B. polyamide or polyester , both combined with a lower proportion of elastic fibers ( elastane or the like). This results in a certain wearing comfort, and sweat is quickly transported to the outside.

The term

The name of panties is in the context of Retro - fad to understand. The cut covers a comparatively large amount of skin compared to the underpants cuts of the 1970s and 1980s ( briefs , minislips , thongs ). The cut of the retro is a modified borrowing from the underpants cuts of the 1950s or even earlier.

This reversed the trend , which continued into the 1980s , of continuously reducing the cuts in underwear and swimwear . Instead of a linear progressive trend, there is a pluralism of cuts . In women's swimwear, this phenomenon began with the revival of the one-piece swimsuit in the 1980s, in response to the decade-long trend towards ever tighter bikinis .
