Rexhep Çeliku

Rexhep Çeliku (born July 19, 1954 in Tirana , Albania ; † January 12, 2018 ) was an Albanian choreographer and folk dancer . From 1976 he worked as a soloist in the Ansambli Kombëtar i Këngëve dhe Valleve Popullore (national ensemble of folk songs and dances) . In his repertoire there are around 8,000 performances inside and outside Albania, in which he has played around 12,000 roles. Rexhep Çeliku is one of the most important interpreters of Albanian dance .

The "father of Albanian choreography" Panajot Kanaçi (1924–1996) was a close friend of Rexhep Çeliku, who worked with him for over 25 years.

In the early morning hours of January 12, 2018, Rexhep Çeliku died of an illness. Before his death he received the Albanian orders of merit Nderi i Kombit ("Dignity of the People") and Mjeshtër i madh ("Great Master").
