The yellow-banded pincer billy , also two-banded pincer billy or two-striped pincer billy ( Rhagium bifasciatum ) is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).
description
The beetles are 12 to 23 mm long, their antennae are relatively short, as with all pincer bucks. On both sides of the neck shield is a more pronounced spike. The body is black, the wing covers are black inside and red-brown outside. Normally, each wing cover has two inclined, yellowish-white bandages. Sometimes the posterior ones or the anterior ones are absent, and exceptionally the elytra have no bandages at all. A total of eleven clearly distinguishable variations are known.
Occurrence
The yellow-bound Zangenbock inhabits most of Europe . It is more common in the west and completely absent in the northeast. In addition, it occurs in Asia Minor and in the Caucasus to Armenia . It prefers lower mountain ranges, but can also rise to subalpine locations.
Way of life
The larvae inhabit rotten stumps and trunks of spruce and pine, sometimes also of beech, oak and other deciduous trees. They are therefore among the decomposers of dead wood . The development period is usually two years. In contrast to related species such as the shotgun and the black-spotted pincer buck , the larva does not build a pupa cradle under the bark, but pupates in the rotten wood.
The beetles hatch in autumn and overwinter in their hiding place. They come out from the end of April. They are diurnal and fly in clearings and forest paths or walk on trunks and branches until July. Occasionally they also visit flowers.
