The Ottmarsheim Rhine Bridge is a Rhine and border crossing between the German Steinenstadt and the French Ottmarsheim at Rhine kilometer 194.3. In southern Baden, it connects the German federal autobahn 5 with the French autobahn A36 . Around 14,790 vehicles passed the motorway bridge every day in 2003.

history

On November 17, 1977, the French Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany agreed on the construction of the border bridge in a state treaty. The entire structure was erected by France as the builder using French regulations and standards according to a draft of the French motorway administration SETRA (Service d'Etudes Techniques des Routes et Autoroutes) by French construction companies. The contracting parties each bore half of the construction costs. The structure was opened to traffic in 1981 as part of the 862 federal motorway .

construction

The bridge was built from 1977 to 1979 in cantilever construction with precast segment parts.

The 250-meter-long girder bridge is a three-span prestressed concrete structure with a curved floor plan , which consists of 13.5-meter-wide superstructures for the three lanes in each directional carriageway. The spans are 70 meters in the edge fields and 110 meters in the middle field. The superstructure is provided as a hollow box haunched formed whose height varies between 7.0 meters above the pillars and 2.5 meters in the bridge center.

In the west, the Rhine bridge is followed by a prestressed concrete bridge over the Rhine canal ( Grand Canal d'Alsace ) along the A36 , which is 429.5 meters long and has a maximum span of 171.9 meters. The structure was built with prefabricated segment parts, most of which consist of lightweight concrete .
