Rhenish helmet
The Rhenish helmet is a roof shape on towers, as it is typical for Romanesque church buildings in the area of influence of the Rhine between Basel and Holland (according to the earlier definition: Rhineland ).
shape
It is a pyramid-shaped roof on a square floor plan. Each side of the tower has a triangular gable . The four edges of the pyramid correspond to the four gable tops, not the four corners of the towers. This creates four rhomboid roof surfaces.
An early example of such gables can be found on the four towers of the Speyer Cathedral . Rhenish helmets come almost only in the above. Area before; but there are a few examples outside.
