The Rhineland-Palatinate is under construction frigate of the German Navy and the fourth unit of the Baden-Wuerttemberg class , also called F125 class. The warship named after the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate is the second unit of this name in a German navy after the Bremen-class frigate Rheinland-Pfalz (F 209), which was decommissioned in 2013 . A warship with the name of a part of today's federal state, the SMS Rheinland , was in the Imperial Navy .
history
The Rhineland-Palatinate was laid on January 29, 2015 in cooperation between ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and the Lürssen shipyard group in Hamburg . The ceremonial christening took place on May 24, 2017 in Hamburg. Godmother was the Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer . In June 2019 the ship carried out a shipyard test run. Commissioning and handover to the 4th frigate squadron is planned for the 3rd quarter of 2021.
