The Untersee with its underwaters. |
The Rhine leaves the part of Lake Constance called the Obersee near Konstanz as Seerhein . After six kilometers it forms the Rheinsee , which the current flows through. At the outflow is the island of Werd with a Franciscan monastery . The Rheinsee forms the Untersee with the Zeller See and the Gnadensee , which surround the island of Reichenau . This is assigned to Lake Constance with the Seerhein.
In the specialist literature, however, it is also stated that the Rhine leaves Lake Constance near Konstanz. After that, the Untersee is a lake in itself. The Rheinsee forms the border between Switzerland and Germany .
The eastern part of the Rhine lake is the Ermating Bay . The greatest depth of the Rhine lake of 45 meters is also the greatest depth of the entire Untersee.
Stein am Rhein , a small town on both sides of the river, lies at the outflow of the Rhine lake .
