Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides grows epiphytically with initially upright, later hanging, mesotonically branched , clearly bifold shoots . The cylindrical, woody main shoots are 10 to 20 centimeters long and 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter. The likewise cylindrical, green side shoots are short, round and 7 to 15 millimeters long and have a diameter of 2 to 4 millimeters. The areoles are covered with some fine bristles.

The white flowers appear on the side of the shoots. They are 8 millimeters long and 15 millimeters in diameter. The spherical fruits are white. A persistent remnant of flowers adheres to them.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Rhipsalis mesembryanthemoides is common in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro .

The first description was in 1821 by Adrian Hardy Haworth .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
