Rhipsalis olivifera is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Rhipsalis olivifera grows epiphytically or lithophytically with semi-upright to slightly hanging, richly branched shoots and reaches lengths of up to 1 meter. The dark green and later reddish, flattened, thick shoots are broadly elliptical to circular and have protruding veins. Their edge is notched and slightly curved. The areoles are sparsely covered with wool.

The yellowish to white flowers appear in groups of up to three flowers on the side of the shoots. They are 15 millimeters long and have a diameter of 20 to 25 millimeters. The fruits are olive-shaped and green with purple stripes when ripe.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Rhipsalis olivifera is distributed in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro in the Serra dos Órgãos National Park .

It was first described in 1997 by Nigel Paul Taylor and Daniela Cristina Zappi .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT)", d. H. listed as low risk.
