Rhipsalis paradoxa is a species of plant in the genus Rhipsalis from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Rhipsalis paradoxa grows epiphytically in large clusters with richly branched, hanging shoots of limited growth, which branch exclusively acrotonously . The three- to four-edged, light green shoots have zigzag-shaped, interrupted edges. The edge sections are up to 5 centimeters long. The areoles are woolly and without bristles.
The white flowers appear individually near the shoot tips and reach a length of up to 2 centimeters. The spherical fruits are tinged with white or pink.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
The distribution area of Rhipsalis paradoxa extends from the northeast to the southeast of Brazil .
The first description as Lepismium paradoxum by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer was published in 1837. Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck placed the species in the genus Rhipsalis in 1845 . The following subspecies are distinguished:
- Rhipsalis paradoxa subsp. paradox
- Rhipsalis paradoxa subsp. septentrionalis N.P. Taylor & Barthlott
Rhipsalis paradoxa was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in 2002 as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified. The subspecies Rhipsalis paradoxa subsp. septentrionalis was considered " Endangered (EN) " in 2002 , i. H. endangered. After the list was revised in 2013, the species will be classified as " Least Concern (LC) ", i. H. listed as not endangered and the subspecies Rhipsalis paradoxa subsp. septentrionalis excluded from the list.
