Rhizopogon evadens (syn. Rhizopogon evadens var. Subalpinus AHSm. (1966)) is a fungus from the family of root truffle relatives.

description

The mushroom forms round to irregularly shaped fruit bodies with a diameter of 2… 5 centimeters and irregular protuberances and depressions on the surface. The peridium (the outer tissue layer of the fruiting body) is whitish with light yellow to brown spots and turns red when squeezed. The mushroom has an unpleasant odor and a taste that is described as "metallic". The gleba is initially white, but becomes olive to olive-brown as it ripens and its consistency becomes gelatinous. The soft spores of R. evadens are narrowly elliptical in shape and measure 6… 8 by 2… 2.3 µm.

ecology
