Riachão (Sao Bento)
Riachão is a housing estate in the rural area of the Brazilian city of São Bento in the state of Paraíba .
The settlement is located about 6 km northeast of the center of São Bento, which is also the administrative center, on the right side of the Rio Piranhas and has 742 inhabitants, who are spread over the small settlements of Cima, Lagoa, Centro, Baixo and Quintal. Adjacent villages are Taquarituba, Quatorze, Catarina and Várzea Grande. The closest federal highway is PB-293 , which runs north . The predominantly Catholic population is divided into the chapels Capela São Francisco and Capela Nossa Senhora de Fátima .
The area has a semi-arid climate and is part of the semiárido brasileiro , which comprises several states . The population is engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding, some of the families also make hammocks. Riachão has been one of the 26 places in Paraíba since 2012 where a reforestation project for the Opuntia cochenillifera was started, with which the carmine dye can be obtained from the cochineal scale.
Riachão means "big brook". The place is named after a body of water lying just outside the settlement that forms a piece of the border between the states of Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte . It is not suitable for transport.
