Rianne Monique Letschert (born September 13, 1976 in Doetinchem ) is a Dutch legal scholar and has been the rector of Maastricht University since 2016 .

Live and act

Letschert studied law at Tilburg University from 1995 . After semesters at the Universities of Amsterdam and Montpellier , she graduated in Tilburg in 2000. In 2005 she was in Tilburg with the English human rights work The impact of minority rights mechanisms to Dr. iur. PhD. From 2011 she held the then newly created chair for victimology and international law at the University of Tilburg . In 2012 she became a member of the De Jonge Akadmemie of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences , of which she was appointed in 2015. In September 2016 Letschert moved to Maastricht University , where she was appointed rector. Her main research interests are in international human rights and victim protection law, especially in criminal proceedings.

Letschert is married and has two children.
