Ricardo Espala , full name Ricardo César Espala Sarucu , (born March 14, 1958 in Montevideo , † January 12, 1999 in Mendoza ) was a Uruguayan football player .

Career

Offensive player Espala made his debut at the age of 17 at Club Atlético Cerro in the Primera División . In 1979 he moved from Cerro to Colón in Primera B. In 1980 he joined the Argentine club Club Atlético Atlanta , where he made his debut on March 1, 1980 against Deportivo Armenio and for which he played until 1984. His club took part in Primera B until 1983. That year Espala became champions and rose with the team. By then he had completed 104 second division games in the period mentioned, in which he scored 41 goals. After promotion, another eleven league appearances (no goal) followed in the Primera División Metropolitano . In addition, he ran for Atlanta on July 12, 1981 in the 3: 4 defeat in Montevideo against the Uruguayan national team for the Argentine team coached by Luis Artime and scored the interim 1: 1 equalization. This was followed by career stations in Ecuador . In 1985 he was at LDU Quito , from 1986 to 1987 at Macará . From 1987 to 1988 he played ten games for San Miguel in Argentina, in which he scored one goal. From mid-1988 he was under contract with Deportivo Aucas . In 1990 he returned to Montevideo. In 1999 he died after years of leukemia in his adopted home Mendoza.
