Ricardo van der Velde (born February 19, 1987 in Rijsbergen ) is a former Dutch cyclist . He was a professional from 2005 to 2013.

Athletic career

Van der Velde became the Dutch junior cyclocross champion in 2003. The next year he won the silver medal in the junior class at the European cyclocross championship in Vossem . In 2005 he was successful on a part of the road in the junior round trip Vuelta al Besaya. From October 2005 van der Velde drove for the Rabobank Continental team , the farm team of the Dutch ProTeam Rabobank .

In 2007 he came second at the Dutch U23 championships in cyclocross. In 2008 he won a stage in the Tour de l'Avenir . Van der Velde celebrated his greatest success when he won the MZF at the Tour of Qatar . In the same year he finished two second stage places and one third stage place at the International Cycling Classic. In 2011 he was able to achieve a second and a third stage place as well as the second overall place at the International Cycling Classic. In 2012, he finished twelfth overall in the Tour of Qinghai Lake . He ended his professional career at the end of the 2013 season.

family

His father was Johan van der Velde and his brother Alain van der Velde and his uncle Theo van der Velde were also cyclists.
