Riccardo Bavaj

Riccardo Bavaj (* 1976 in Aachen ) is a German historian .

Life

Riccardo Bavaj studied Medieval and Modern History, Eastern European History and Economics at the Universities of Bonn and Southampton . He received his Magister Artium in 2001 and his doctorate in 2004. After working as a research volunteer at the Institute for Westphalian Regional History, he moved to the University of St Andrews in Scotland as a lecturer in 2005 , where he teaches German and European history of the 20th century. From 2009 to 2011 Riccardo Bavaj conducted research as a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in the USA and was visiting professor at Saint Louis University .

Bavaj has published on the history of the Weimar Republic , National Socialism , liberalism after 1945 as well as the phenomena of the “West” and European modernity, and focuses on the history of ideas, concepts and space.

Awards

From 2002 to 2004 Riccardo Bavaj was a PhD scholarship holder from the German National Academic Foundation and in 2005 a research scholarship from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation . He has been a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society since 2006 and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2007. In 2009 Bavaj received the Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship, which is awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation .
