Richard Althaus (born August 23, 1905 in Iserlohn - Obergrüne , † April 19, 1995 in Hagen ) was a German writer and local historian.

Life

Althaus was the son of a forest worker. After attending elementary school, he initially worked as an industrial worker and later as an administrative clerk. From 1920 to 1933 it was also shaped by the Wandervogel movement of the post-war period . In evening classes he dealt with studies in botany, geology and literary history. He worked actively in homeland and nature conservation. In 1954 Althaus moved to Hagen , where he worked in the city's Karl-Osthaus-Museum .

His writing was influenced by the Westphalian writer Maria Kahle and his elementary school teacher Heinrich Kleibauer .

Althaus was a member of the literature and journalism department of the Westphalian Heimatbund , the folklore commission for Westphalia and the West German authors' association. Since the founding of the Authors' Circle Ruhr-Mark in 1961, Althaus was chairman of the association for many years, and later honorary chairman. He was initially managing director and later an honorary member of the Hagener Heimatbund eV and director, later then honorary chairman, of the Low German working group in Hagen. He also appeared as a guest speaker at the Hagen nursing home of the Deutsche Kulturwerk Europäische Geist eV.
