Richard Campbell Stewart

Sir Richard Campbell Stewart , KCB ( 1836 - December 14, 1904 in Cheltenham , Gloucestershire ) was a British general .

Life

Stewart, son of Lieutenant General Thomas Stewart and his wife Jane Christina Campbell, joined the Madras Army in 1853 and participated in the Indian uprising of 1857 . In the following years he found various uses as an officer and was promoted to captain in 1862 , major in 1871 and colonel in 1881 . As commander of the Hyderabad Contingent , he was appointed brigadier general promoted and adopted by the Third Anglo-Burmese War 1886-1887 in operations in the now of British India belonging to Burma in part. For his services he was promoted to Companion des Order of the Bath (CB) and in July 1893 to major general.

On May 8, 1894, Stewart was made Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) and has since been named "Sir". In 1895 he was promoted to lieutenant general and in 1900 general . In May 1904 he was also Colonel of Honor of the 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse) .

From his 1870 marriage with Mona Gough Haines, daughter of Colonel Gregory Haines and his wife Jane Eliza Mona Gough, a daughter was born.
