Richard Dering

Richard Dering (also Deering, Dearing ; * around 1580; buried March 22, 1630 in London ) was an English organist and composer .

After studying at Oxford , he moved to Italy in 1612. There he converted to the Catholic faith and came under the influence of the Italian compositional style, which had a strong influence on his work from this time on. In 1625 he returned to his homeland, before that he held the position of organist at the monastery of the English Benedictine Sisters in Brussels for some time .

The works of his early years are still exclusively in the English tradition, he created vocal and instrumental music using melodies from his homeland. After his return, his works follow the Italian style.
