Richard Doell (church musician)

Richard Doell (* 1893 in Weißenfels , † 1950 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German music teacher and church musician .

Life

Richard Doell was born in Weißenfels in 1893 and trained in music education at the Weißenfels teacher training college. In 1920 he began his school service at a primary school in Halle and shortly afterwards founded the Halle Musicians' Guild. In 1932 Richard Doell became a church musician in the Neumarkt parish of St. Laurentius in Halle . Here he succeeded in setting up a powerful choir with which he oratorios G.F. Handel performed, but was banned from practicing by the Gestapo in 1940 .

After the Second World War , Richard Doell rebuilt the Stadtsingechor zu Halle until his death . At that time Ivan Rebroff and Gothart Stier sang as choirboys under his direction .
