Karl Arthur Hartung

Karl Arthur Hartung (born May 6, 1859 in Sundhausen (Gotha) , † December 28, 1936 in Hirschberg ) was a German politician .

Life

Born as the son of a domain tenant, Hartung studied law in Jena , Leipzig and Halle after attending the high school and the Ernestinum Gotha grammar school as well as after training in the higher postal service . During his studies he became a member of the Germania Jena fraternity in the winter semester of 1877/78 . In 1881 he was a one-year volunteer with the 6th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 95 . After exams and legal clerkship, he became a paid member of the Gotha City Council in 1886 as a senator and in 1892 as a paid deputy mayor of Hirschberg i. Rsgb. There he became first mayor in 1904 and later lord mayor . In 1920 he retired. From 1921 to 1923 he was chairman of the Giant Mountains Association . In Hirschberg he was a member of the Masonic lodge at the hot spring .
