Richard E. Markert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Markert (born November 26, 1948 in Schweinfurt ) is a mechanical engineer, scientist and university professor . Until his release, he headed the Institute for Structural Dynamics (sdy) at the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD). He is also an expert assessor for the German Accreditation Service (DAkkS).

Career

After completing an apprenticeship as a car mechanic , Richard Markert first completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences and worked for some time as a design engineer at SKF . From 1973 to 1975 he studied physical engineering at the Technical University of Berlin and graduated with a diploma. Afterwards he was a scientific assistant at the 1st Institute for Mechanics of the TU Berlin and in 1980 he was promoted to Dr.-Ing. In 1980 by Professors Herbert Pfützner and Robert Gasch with a thesis on the resonance passage. PhD. From 1980 to 1992 Richard Markert headed the vibration technology laboratory at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. In 1992 he was appointed university professor for mechanics at the Technical University of Darmstadt. In the course of restructuring, Richard Markert finally took over the Institute for Structural Dynamics in 2006, which emerged from the former department of machine dynamics. In 2014, Markert was released. The institute, now called Applied Dynamics, has since been headed by Bernhard Schweizer.

Research and Teaching

Richard Markert's scientific work lies in the areas of machine and structural dynamics, mechatronics , vibration measurement technology , including structure identification and signal analysis, and especially in rotor dynamics. Under his direction, the rotor dynamics laboratory was set up at the TU Darmstadt. As an author and co-author, he wrote more than 200 publications on resonance crossing , rubbing, active magnetic bearings , plain bearings dynamics , turbocharger -Dynamics, balancing and electrorheological fluids . Numerous industrial collaborations confirm the practical relevance of Richard Markert's research topics.

In addition to basic lectures in technical mechanics and structural dynamics , Markert regularly held in-depth lectures on rotor dynamics , vibration measurement technology and vehicle dynamics . The contents of the basic lectures are available to the interested public in 8 books by Shaker Verlag. From the mid-1990s, Richard Markert was involved in several international research projects of the EU and, in particular, built up close collaborations with universities in Brazil. The projects made it possible for a number of students and doctoral candidates to study and research at the partner institutes involved for a certain period of time. With the commitment of Richard Markert, the dual degree course was also introduced between the mechanical engineering faculties of the USP in São Paulo and the TU Darmstadt.

Non-university activities

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Markert performed numerous tasks inside and outside the TUD: Managing Director, Dean, member of the convention and senate of TU Darmstadt, representative of TUD in the German University Association , nominated member in several DIN and ISO standardization committees of the Vibration technology as well as from specialist committees of the VDI . Markert is also a member of the steering committees of SIRM and IFToMM as well as on the editorial board of the journal Technische Mechanik.

Another focus of Markert's interests is the accreditation of test laboratories and inspection bodies in mechanical engineering and environmental simulation. He is a specialist assessor for the German accreditation body DAkkS and a member of the mechanical engineering sector committee located there.
