Richard Ewald , actually Richard Krizek ( December 16, 1851 in Brno , Moravia - after 1903) was a German theater actor , singer ( tenor / baritone ) and theater director .

Life

Ewald, the son of a Moravian watch manufacturer, had repeatedly sung couplets in clubs , gave comical performances and participated in amateur performances when Rudolf Tyrolt noticed the young man's talent and advised him to turn to the stage.

Ewald first found engagement as a chorister and for small roles in Bieliz-Biala in 1872, where he was assigned his first operetta roles after only three months, then spent several years at German and Austrian provincial theaters and came to Graz in 1888. This was followed by Brno (1899), Theater in der Josefstadt (1891–1892), Berlin, Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtisches-Theater (1893), Hamburg (1894), Munich, Gärtnerplatztheater (1895–1896), Berlin, Thaliatheater (1897–1899) , Theater an der Wien (1900), Magdeburg (1901). In that year he was engaged for the city theater in Szczecin. From 1902 to 1903 he worked again in Munich.

Ewald also worked as a director.

His life after 1903 is unknown.
