Richard Ellrodt
Richard Friedrich Ellrodt (born August 2, 1883 in Leipzig ; † January 11, 1933 there ) was a German politician of the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD) and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). From 1920 to 1926 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament .
Life
Ellrodt, the son of a shoemaker , became a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1903 . In 1917 he moved to the USPD and was elected a member of its Leipzig district leadership. At the unification convention of the USPD and KPD in December 1920, Ellrodt represented the USPD in Leipzig. In November 1920 he was elected to the Saxon state parliament, still for the USPD. In December 1920 he joined the KPD faction. In 1922 he was re-elected.
In 1922/23 Ellrodt worked full-time for the KPD newspaper Roter Kurier in Leipzig and from 1926 to 1930 was the editor of the Saxon workers newspaper , which emerged from the Rote Kurier . In 1926 Ellrodt was not re-elected to the state parliament, but gained a municipal mandate as city councilor in Leipzig, which he exercised until 1929. In early 1930 Ellrodt gave up his political work for health reasons. He died in 1933 as a result of severe asthma .
His son Gerhard Ellrodt took part in the communist resistance against National Socialism and was a functionary of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).
