Richard Gagné

Dom Richard Gagné OSB (* 1954 in L'Islet-sur-Mer , Québec ) is a Canadian organist.

Gagné studied at the Quebec Conservatory from 1969 to 1976 and received first prizes in the subjects of organ, harmony, music history and music. Between 1987 and 1990 he completed his training here in composition, music theory and history. His teachers included Claude Lavoie , Noëlla Genest , Pierick Houdy , Irène Brisson and Pierre Genest .

In 1976 he entered the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac , where he was ordained a priest in 1984. In addition to his theological training, he had organ lessons here with Dom André Laberge and studied organ improvisation with Raymond Daveluy .

He has performed widely as an organist in the province of Quebec, and his organ improvisations have been broadcast on Radio-Canada . Between 1991 and 1994 he gave improvisation courses at the atelier de musique sacrée in Épinal. From 1996 to 2003 he succeeded Dom Jean Claire as choirmaster and since 1998 organist at the Abbey of Solesmes in France.
