Richard Grégoire

Richard Grégoire (born May 18, 1944 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.

Grégoire studied composition with Serge Garant at the University of Montreal . With a grant from the Pro Musica Society and the Québec government, he stayed in Paris from 1969-70. He studied with the Groupe de recherches musicales , worked under Pierre Schaeffer and was a composition student of Gilbert Amy . In 1969 he worked on the preparation of an electroacoustic composition for the Avignon Festival .

After returning to Canada, Grégoire taught at the University of Montreal until 1976. He has also arranged pieces for pop musicians such as Edith Butler , Jim and Bertrand , Pauline Julien , Diane Juster , Jacques Michel , and Fabienne Thibeault . For the music for the TV drama Deuxième Coup de feu , he received the 1978 Canadian Music Council award for the best original composition for a television production. Since the late 1970s, Grégoire was mainly active as a film composer.
