Richard Marius Joseph Greene (born August 25, 1918 in Plymouth , † June 1, 1985 in Norfolk ) was a British actor.

Acting career

Richard Greene was already an established British theater actor when he was brought to Hollywood in 1938 by Darryl F. Zanuck on a studio contract with 20th Century Fox . The actor made his US debut as a leading man of Loretta Young in Four Men and a Prayer , directed by John Ford . The response from fans was positive and the studio tried to make Greene a star as the successor to Tyrone Power . In addition to another appearance on the side of Loretta Young in The Golden Whip , Greene shot next to Sonja Henie the musical My Lucky Star in 1938 : In the following year he was seen next to Shirley Temple in The Little Princess . He also took on roles in The Hound of Baskerville and Stanley and Livingston . His career did not develop as hoped and Richard Greene did not get beyond supporting roles and the occasional second leading role.

After England entered the war, Greene returned to Great Britain in late 1940, where he appeared alongside Anna Neagle in Yellow Canary . After 1946 he went back to the USA, but his career did not take the hoped-for upswing. It was not until the British television series The Adventures of Robin Hood , in which the legendary hero was embodied in 143 episodes from 1955 to 1960, that he gained new popularity. The actor appeared in a few awesome films in the late 1960s . Until 1981 he was seen in guest roles in numerous TV series, including in Die Profis .

Richard Greene was successful in breeding horses on his farm in Ireland in his later years. From 1941 to 1951 he was married to Patricia Medina , his second marriage to Beatriz Summers. He died of cardiac arrest in 1985 at the age of 66 .
