Richard Lumley, 12th Earl of Scarbrough

Richard Aldred Lumley, 12th Earl of Scarbrough (born December 5, 1932 in Lumley Castle , County Durham , † March 23, 2004 in Sandbeck House near Rotherham ), was a British peer and politician . Between 1945 and 1969 he was known by the courtesy title Viscount Lumley .

He was the son of Lawrence Lumley, 11th Earl of Scarbrough , and Katherine Isobel McEwen. When his father died in 1969, he inherited his title of nobility along with the seat in the House of Lords that was associated with it . With the House of Lords Act 1999 he lost his hereditary seat in parliament.

From 1996 to 2004 he was Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire .

In 1970 he married Lady Elizabeth Anne Ramsay, eldest daughter of Simon Ramsay, 16th Earl of Dalhousie . With her he had a daughter and three sons:

When he died in 2004, his eldest son Richard Osbert inherited his titles.
