Rien Kaashoek
Marinus Adriaan "Rien" Kaashoek (born November 10, 1937 in Ridderkerk ) is a Dutch mathematician. He was a professor at the Free University of Amsterdam .
Kaashoek received his doctorate in 1964 under Adriaan Cornelis Zaanen at the University of Leiden . From 1959 he was assistant in Leiden and from 1966 lecturer at the Free University of Amsterdam, where he became professor in 1969.
He was visiting professor at the University of Maryland, College Park (1975), the University of Calgary (1987), Ben Gurion University of the Negev (1987) and Tel Aviv University .
He deals with the analysis and theory of operators, matrix theory and mathematical systems theory, e.g. Wiener-Hopf integral equations, Toeplitz operators, operator analogies of Bezout and resultant matrices, completions and interpolations of operators, state space methods in analysis.
Harm Bart and André Ran are among his PhD students .
