Richard Maximilian Lyon-Dalberg-Acton, 2nd Baron Acton , KCVO (* August 7, 1870 - June 16, 1924 ) was a British peer and diplomat .

life and career

Lyon-Dalberg-Acton originally carried the family name Dalberg-Acton. He studied at Magdalen College at the University of Oxford and entered the Foreign Office in 1894 , where he rose to leading positions. He inherited in 1902 on the death of his father, the historian John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton , whose title of nobility as 2nd Baron Acton and 9th Baronet, of Aldenham .

Two years later he married Dorothy Lyon, with whom he had nine children. It was not until 1911 that he was naturalized by parliamentary law, by which time he had not been a British citizen despite his various diplomatic tasks. He changed his family name in 1919 with royal permission to that of his wife to "Lyon-Dalberg-Acton".

Between 1905 and 1915 Lyon-Dalberg-Acton was Lord-in-Waiting at the British court. He worked for many years as chargé d'affaires, including in Bern from 1904 to 1906 and in Madrid from 1906 to 1907. In 1917/18 he was Consul General in Zurich. His last post took him to Finland as ambassador in 1919/20 .

Lyon-Dalberg-Acton died in 1924. His titles passed to the eldest son.
